Chicken Kofta Recipe

Chicken Koftas are basically meatballs essentially made of ground chicken, garlic, onion, fresh parsley, and a few other ingredients and spices.

These healthy chicken Koftas are packed full of flavour and are perfect to cook on the grill or on the BBQ.  They go perfectly with a fresh salad and tasty hummus. 

They're quick and easy to make and simply delicious - give it a try! 

What you'll need:

  • 700g minced chicken (you could also use turkey mince)
  • ½ cup grated onions
  • 1 chopped garlic clove
  • ½ cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 3 tablespoons of chopped mint
  • Salt & Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander
  • ½ teaspoon of Paprika
  • ½ teaspoon of Chili Flakes
  • 2-3 teaspoons of Cumin
  • 2 teaspoons Ginger
  • 1 egg
  • Olive Oil


  1. Place the minced chicken in a large mixing bowl. Add grated onion, minced garlic, chopped parsley and mint. Add chilli flakes, ginger, coriander, paprika, salt and pepper. Add the egg, if using, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil to bring this mixture together.
  2. Take fistfuls of the chicken mixture and form into eight oval patties that are about 1 to 1 ½ inches thick (try to keep them all equal in size).
  3. Arrange the patties on a tray or a large plate (they should not be touching) and chill for 15 to 20 minutes while the grill is heating (longer if you have the time)
  4. Grease with a bit of oil and preheat grill to medium-high. When ready, arrange the chicken koftas on the grill so that they are far enough apart (you'll want to have enough room to turn them over).
  5. Grill for 4 to 5 minutes on each side or until the chicken is fully cooked. (Turn each kofta over halfway through cooking).
  6. Serve immediately with salad and hummus, or rice. Enjoy!
